ABOUT ANDY

Having graduated in 1994, Andy started his career at Joshua Bury, Earle & Co in Manchester where he studied for his APC and became a Chartered Surveyor in 1996. His principal areas of work at that time were Landlord and Tenant and Compulsory Purchase. 

Following the merger of Joshua Bury, Earle & Co. and Matthews & Goodman in 1996, Andy moved to the Agency Team at Matthews & Goodman, where he was primarily involved with Retail and Office Agency.

Andy moved to Chesterton in 1998, where he specialised in Landlord and Tenant matters. He dealt with the Retail, Office and Industrial sectors. He also continued to advise on Compulsory Purchase matters. He progressed to the level of Associate Partner before departing in 2002.

Andy joined Cheetham & Mortimer, as an Associate Partner in 2002. He soon became a full equity partner and remained at the practice for the next 20 years. He continued to specialise in Landlord and Tenant matters and advised some of the best-known names in retail, including Marks & Spencer whom Andy has advised for over 20 years.

On the Landlord side, Andy has advised many high-profile companies including Bruntwood, Derwent Holdings, M&G, New River Retail, and Property Alliance Group. He also advised numerous smaller property companies and individual Landlords.

Andy became increasingly involved in Dispute Resolution work and studied for a Post Graduate Diploma in Arbitration at the University of Reading, graduating from the course in 2007 having won the David Lawrence prize for Arbitration Award writing. Later that year, Andy became one of the youngest members of the RICS President’s Panel of Arbitrators. He regularly acts as Arbitrator in Rent Review disputes and is often called upon to act as a PACT Arbitrator in Lease Renewal disputes.

Andy left Cheetham & Mortimer in 2022 to set up his own practice specialising in Lease Consultancy and Arbitration.
